BANGOR, ME — Former Husson University exercise science faculty member Jonathan Houck, 33, of Bangor, has been arrested and booked into the Penobscot County Jail following a Bangor Police Department investigation into child sexual abuse material and unauthorized surveillance.
According to Bangor Police, the investigation was initiated after detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division received a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). A subsequent search warrant executed by investigators uncovered evidence that led to formal charges against Houck:
- 6 Class C Counts: Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM)
- 4 Class D Counts: Violation of Privacy
The arrest follows mounting public attention after a Husson student publicly identified herself as a victim in the investigation, alleging that Houck concealed a recording device inside an exercise science laboratory where students were directed to undress for course weigh-ins.
Husson University officials confirmed they were alerted to the police investigation early on September 21, at which point Houck was escorted from campus and relieved of his duties within the hour. The university stated he is no longer employed by the institution and that administration is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Bangor Police stated the investigation remains active and ongoing. Strange Maine will continue tracking Penobscot County court dockets and official booking logs as proceedings unfold.
